Market live: Sensex, Nifty rise, Tata Steel shares up 3%, IT stocks fall

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex trades higher to 32,330.39 points on Monday. The broader Nifty, too, was up marginally to 10,069.85 points.

The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar, tracking mixed Asian currencies market. Asian markets opened higher, tracking the gains in the US stocks over the weekend.

Here are the latest updates from the markets:

10.30am: BSE Sensex trades higher by 4.98 points, or 0.02%, to 32,330.39, while the Nifty 50 up 3.45 points, or 0.03%, to 10,069.85.

10.20am: Tata Steel Ltd rises 3% to Rs591.40 ahead of its June quarter earnings. According to 10 Bloomberg analysts’ estimates, the company may post a net profit of Rs1.142.10 crore and revenues will be at Rs28,468 crore.

10.10am: Centrum Capital Ltd falls 5% to Rs47.40 after a huge block deal. Around 80 lakh shares of the company changed hands, according to ET Now. However, details of the buyers and sellers were not known.

10.05am: IT stocks fall. TCS was down 1.3%, Infosys Ltd 1%, Wipro Ltd 0.5% and HCL Technologies Ltd 0.6%.

10.00am: BSE Sensex trades lower by 6.39 points, or 0.02%, to 32,319.02, while the Nifty 50 down 2.60 points, or 0.03%, to 10,063.80.

9.55am: Repco Home Finance Ltd fell 10% after the company reported lower-than-expected earnings. On 4 August, the company reported a profit of Rs45.16 crore in the June quarter against Rs50.77 crore estimated by Bloomberg analysts.

9.45am: HDIL fell 4% to Rs72.75. The stock fell for the third session and declined 15% in this period. The stock started declining after the National Company Law Tribunal admitted insolvency application against HDIL arm Guruashish Construction Pvt. Ltd filed by the Union Bank of India.

9.40am: Eros International Ltd rose 7% to Rs223.65 after a news report said that it is in talks with Apple Inc. to sell its entire content library of films and music for around $1 billion

9.35am: Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd fell 3% to Rs289.05 after the company said its net profit in the June quarter declined 72% from a quarter ago to Rs66.55 crore against Rs238.42 crore.

9.30am: BSE Sensex trades higher by 51.81 points, or 0.16%, to 32,377.22, while the Nifty 50 rises 17.5 points, or 0.17%, to 10,083.90.

9.25am: Jaiprakash Associates Ltd rises 18% to Rs29.75 after the company reported a profit of Rs764.99 crore in the June quarter after 12 consecutive quarter losses.

9.20am: Wockhardt Ltd rises 2% to Rs608.90 after the company said it got US Food and Drug Administration’s approval for an antibiotic injection.

9.15am: The rupee opened at 63.73 a dollar. At 9.15am, the rupee was trading at 63.70 a dollar, down 0.20% from its Friday’s close of 63.58.

9.10am: The 10-year bond yield was at 6.453%, compared to its previous close of 6.441%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.

9.00am: Asian currencies were trading mixed. South Korean won was down 0.26%, Philippines peso 0.16%, Taiwan dollar 0.09% and Malaysian ringgit 0.07%. However, China offshore spot was up 0.1%, China renminbi 0.09% and Singapore dollar 0.07%.
